Sir,
I AM directed by the Marquess of Lansdowne to transmit to you herewith, for
Foreign Office, May 4, 1905. the information of the Secretary of State for India, a copy of a despatch which has been received from His Majesty's Minister at Peking relative to the Namting-Nalaut section of the Burmah-Chinese frontier."
Sir E. Satow reports that, in accordance with the instructions which were sent to him on the receipt of your letter of the 28th September, 1904, he has informed the Chinese Government that His Majesty's Government will continue to regard as the provisional boundary the line laid down by Sir G. Scott in 1900, and that he has intimated that Chinese officials and troops cannot be allowed to transgress it.
With regard to the last paragraph of Sir E. Satow's despatch, I am to inquire whether he may be informed that the Government of Burmab will be able to exercise any supervision over the provisional frontier constituted by Sir G. Scott's line.
